TEME VALLEY SOUTH CHURCHES

A RURAL COMMUNITY RELISHING GOING FORWARD WITH GOD

Explore with us at Walking Church

Thanks to Lucy and Fiona for planning our walk round Abberly. It was most enjoyable and provided excellent opportunities to think about horizons - things on near horizons and things on far away horizons. The gospel reading of the day when the disciples were asking Jesus about the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem and the end of all things was an example of confusing the near horizon (the destruction of the temple which occurred not long after the disciples' conversation) and the further horizon (the culmination of history which hasn't happened yet) . The challenge for us is how we live in that time between those two horizons, a time which (as Jesus told his disciples about) has all kinds of challenges for us.

This month's Walking Church falls on 15th December. I've reconnoitred a route from here which goes up the bank behind us, to the Kyre brook and the outskirts of Tenbury. It goes through woods, around field margins, along quiet lanes and across pastures (sheep in them). There is a short stretch on a busy road. The bank behind us has had timber felled on it a few months ago and with the recent rain is a little slippy. Most of the route can be described as "undulating" but there are two short steeper stretches (one going up and one going down). It's a little under three and a half miles, so starting promptly at 2.00pm we should be back in sufficient light.  But if the light starts to fade, or the legs start to tire, I can trim a little off the walk as we go.

There's not a lot of parking here, but Tom at APA repairs (next door) has kindly agreed we can use his yard for parking. At the end of the walk you'll be most welcome here for festive nibbles (and toilet).
